about

I wrote these songs in 2016 in Esquimalt BC with the intention of putting out a self-produced album and performing live with a band. I didn't quite get the album to come, but I released a very lo-fi demo album called D New and the Dust, featuring these songs and others both written by myself and my buddy Derek New. Although I didn't put out an album, I did get a band together: GROTTO MALL (2016-2017) which featured Caitlyn Norman-Kovalick (Keyboard, Saxophone), Ryan Scott (Bass), Cam Harper (Drums) and myself playing guitar and singing. Playing with GROTTO MALL helped me to develop these songs a lot further, but after the band dissolved in summer 2017, I let the songs sit on a shelf in my mind, to focus on new songs.

In January 2018 I was living with a bunch of creative folk in a big house in Oak Bay BC known as The Dome. I set up a bunch of recording equipment in the parlour and recorded drums, bass and some electric guitar, again with the ambition of creating a full album of songs I played with GROTTO MALL, but I didn't like how the songs were sounding and put them back on that shelf in my mind.

This year, 2019, I'm back to Duncan BC and finding the time and energy to work on my music. I was going through a hard drive and re-discovered these tracks. I decided to re-record a bunch of things, mostly vocals and guitar, to salvage a couple of my favourite songs from those days and decided to put them out, into the world as an EP. This is that EP!!!!!!!!!

I'm so excited to share this work as it is my first "official" release of any of my music, and it is self-produced! Just like I wanted back in 2016! Please enjoy listening to this EP as much as I enjoyed creating it over the years.

Sending love and gratitude to these folks:
